Sugar & Sauna
Sugar (2007) explores the relationship between three people. It is an allegorical representation of the relationships in my own life. However I have used people who are close to me as “actors”. They know each other already and therefore have existing relationships with each other as well as with me. This adds another layer to the relationships of the non-professional acting. This is not obvious to the viewer, but it is an important part of the process. The film is about the inability to communicate and the emotions, which come up in those circumstances. I also wanted to explore the silence, which is prevalent in Finnish culture
Sauna (2007) is a piece indirectly a sequel to Sugar, which possibly should be viewed one after another. Sauna features actors partly off-duty and an invisible accordionist playing.
